Liviabeauty is inspired by Livia Drusilla, born January 30, 59BC and died September 28, 29AD at the age of 88. In 27BC she married Caesar Augustus to become Empress of Rome.
Livia Drusilla is the face of feminism and “girl power” as we know it today. Livia was the most notable woman in Ancient Rome – a time when women had no rights, no freedom, and no sense of self outside of guardianship.
In 42 AD, Livia was deified by Claudius, who acknowledged her title of Augusta. As a living goddess of Rome, Livia truly was a living Diva ( "diva" means goddess in Latin).
As the First Lady of Rome, Empress Livia rejected any form of guardianship or guidance despite the imperial propaganda that her husband Augustus tried to impose through her. He believed her beauty and elegance were the perfect tokens for this public image. Due to her immense popularity and admiration of the people of Rome, Livia shortly became the face on Roman coins.
As she carried the responsibility to serve as the role model for the ideal Roman woman, she made certain it was known that her physical beauty was not her only value. The public, however, heavily attributed Livia’s powerful influence to her elegance and dignified beauty. In the present day, we can still find her influence quite prevalent – be it through video tutorials on her most famous hairstyles, or the latest Netflix series, Domina (2021).
Livia Drusilla was a woman of power and beauty and intelligence. She was an inspiration to the people of Ancient Rome, and continues to be an inspiration to women today.
We pay tribute to Livia and honour her at Liviabeauty.ca
